At the Adult Ballet Centre®, we understand the dedication it takes to pursue ballet as an adult. That’s why we’ve introduced a program designed to give your training structure, purpose, and recognition.
We’re proud to integrate the respected Australian Institute of Classical Dance (AICD) Adult Ballet Assessment Program into our teaching. This means you’ll be working toward clear goals within a framework that celebrates your progress — all while continuing to develop your artistry in an environment tailored to adult dancers.
This is where classical ballet tradition and innovation meet — a place to grow, refine your technique, and gain confidence in your abilities. Whether you’re returning to ballet or advancing your training technique, our assessment program offers a rewarding pathway forward.
The assessment classes are designed for individuals who have completed, on average, one year of ballet training as an adult to 10 years or more. These classes serve as an additional enrollment option alongside your regular classes. Over 16 weeks, participants will undergo comprehensive preparation for the assessments. Each level requires a minimum of four participants and a maximum of 12. Please email Lee with any questions you may have here or register your interest using the form below.
Our program consists of six levels. If you're interested in determining the appropriate level for your entry, please fill out the form below. To participate in the program, you must attend one to two regular classes and one weekly AICD assessment class to ensure sound knowledge, progression, and technique are achieved.

Levels 1 and 2, 3 and 4 (for adults with six months to 6+ years of ballet training experience), Levels 5 and 6 ( for adults with 6+ years of ballet training experience)
Each level will consist of 16 weeks of classes in preparation for the examinations, plus your regular weekly classes.
Cost: $640 + GST for 16 weeks of assessment classes. AICD external assessor fee of $70 + GST. This payment will be invioced to enrolled AICD members in week three of the program ( private coaching is also available by request)
Flexible payment options are available, including four instalment payment plans. When you book your class AICD level, you will have the option to activate a four-part payment plan or pay in full.

Recommended for dancers newer to ballet or returning after a long break
This 16-week course focuses on the essentials — posture, alignment, turnout, and basic coordination — in a structured class that repeats and builds familiarity each week. Level 1 helps you feel more confident and supported as you refine your technique, build strength, and deepen your understanding of classical ballet.

AICD Level 2 Goal-Setting and Progress Measurement added to your regular classes: Starting Wednesday 23 July 2025. Book HERE
The AICD adult ballet assessment program offers a structured framework for adult ballet dancers to set goals and track their progress. By participating in the assessment program, dancers can evaluate their current skill level, identify areas for improvement, and monitor their progress over time. This can be particularly valuable for adult dancers who are new to adult ballet or have had gaps in their training and want to establish a clear path for their ballet journey or extend their knowledge and technique at the higher assessment levels.
Level 2: Clear technical goals and measurable growth Stronger awareness of turnout, control, and movement quality Ideal for dancers wanting to feel more secure in class combinations.

Level 3A – Adapted Progression for Strength, Expression, & Technique For dancers who benefit from a modified approach to support physical needs. Starting Wednesday, 23 July, at 12:00 pm.. Book HERE
Level 3A is a fully integrated pathway within the AICD program, designed for dancers who are working with physical conditions or movement considerations that require a tailored class structure.
Over 16 weeks, this level mirrors the same progression, artistic goals, and supportive feedback of Level 3, with modifications that allow you to work safely and confidently toward your personal best. You’ll continue to develop musicality, strength, and expression — with a focus on refining the quality of movement and performance presence. This level ensures that every dancer experiences achievement, progress, and growth, regardless of how their body moves. Follows the same 16-week progression structure as Level 3 Adapted with care to suit a range of physical considerations Encourages expressive movement, control, and confidence A rewarding and respectful progressive training pathway for committed dancers.

AICD Level 3 – Strength, Control & Artistic Development - added to your regular classes. Starting Monday 22 July. Book HERE
Recommended for dancers regularly attending ABC L3 Classical Development classes and above levels.
This level supports dancers looking to expand their strength, fluidity, and performance quality. Over the 16 weeks, you’ll work on more connected and expressive sequences, developing your musicality and learning how to carry movement with greater confidence and consistency. Focus on strength, phrasing, control placement and turnout. Develop artistry and awareness of musical timing. Push your boundaries in a safe, structured way.

AICD Level 4 – Intermediate Practice & Performance Readiness - added to your regular classes. Starting Thursday 24 July at 8pm. Book HERE
Recommended for experienced dancers who want to refine and elevate their practice with a strong technical focus.
AICD Level 4 presents a rich and rewarding challenge spanning 16 weeks, with a greater emphasis on detail, artistry, and dynamic execution. This level focuses on refining your expression, applying technical tools with precision, and exploring the depth of adult ballet training. Explore advanced vocabulary at a class pace over 16 weeks Polish transitions and performance presence Work towards excellence in a supportive setting Suitable for committed dancers wanting to deepen their connection to ballet Mock assessment class week 15 External assessment from the Australian Institute of Classical Dance examiner week 16 You must continue with your regular open ballet classes. What to Bring: Bring a bottle, booklet, pen, or device to take notes. *Please note that class work may not be photographed or filmed unless your teacher advises for learning resources.
Exam attire: Female attire: Black leotard of choice, Energetics Black Adeline ballet skirt, theatrical pink ballet tights and pink canvas ballet shoes. An alternative is a black top, leggings, pink ballet socks, and pink canvas ballet shoes. Male attire: White short-sleeved polo and black male ballet tights, black ballet socks and black canvas ballet shoes. Non-binary: Any combination of the above clothing options. Hair: Female, Neat, low ballet bun, black headband, light make-up. Male: neatly combed and gel/sprayed hair. Ballet bun for longer hair. Jewellery: small pearl and crystal drop stud earrings, no necklaces or bracelets. Non-binary: Any combination of the above options for hair and makeup.
